Arhuaco: Indigenous Tribe in northern Colombia ❤️ Nature and Culture
Ana Barón from Colombia has been living in Styria for a year now. She made us aware of the current situation of the Arhuaco indigenous community in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta. Gunna is an Arhuaco woman that asked Ana for support in maintaining an important council of the community authorities or tribal leaders of her people and the Mamos.
The Arhuaco are one of the four main peoples of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, guardians of ancient wisdom to guard and protect Nature and the ancient Law of Origin to support all Life on this Planet. Our support can help the community in their purpose to stay strong and united.
The Mamos are the ancient sages of the Arhuaco. They maintain and guard a millenary tradition of healing knowledge and deep connection to nature. In addition, they make the important decisions for their people in the spiritual, economic, political, and social areas. The mamos are of course accompanied by their wives or sagas, wise women.
The council aims to resolve an internal conflict in order to restore order and stability within the people and to work together to oppose the planned construction of a dam in Arhuaco territory. The Colombian government plans to interfere in these lands, diverting rivers and mining for precious metals.
Our support will not only pay for the people from the tribe to travel to the site of the meeting but will also support them for buying ingredients for their meals.
We ask for your help to protect the Arhuacos and their deeply revered homeland.
