Orchestra and Choir for children and youths in Urubamba - Peru
This project is a very touching initiative in the sacred valley of the Incas, in Urubamba, Peru. For almost two years this youth symphony orchestra has existed now based on the model of “El sistema” in Venezuela. (this type of orchestra has been existing for decades in Venezuela and thousands of young people from the Favelas have been able to get access to music through this orchestra). The youth symphony orchestra and the children's and youth choir of the sacred valley of the Incas exists in order to enable children from poorer families to learn how to play a musical instrument and to sing in the choir, and to be part of the symphony orchestra.
Over the past year 100 young people have participated in this project. These children have also had the chance to work together as a family, to respect each other, to develop musical skills and to mature as human beings. The Peruvian government has promoted the project until June 2021. Now the funding has expired and the initiative is raising money in order to keep up the project through a crowdfunding campaign. Francisco Alvarez Evora, the conductor of the orchestra said something very beautiful in a Zoom meeting with the Earth Prayers movement a few days ago: “ It is clear to us that we cannot generate 100 professional musicians, but we are certain that we can help ensure that there will be 100 human beings with more values and empathy.” For Francisco it is clear how important music and the team spirit for children is, enabling them a social, cordial, and healthy development.
The aim of the Earth Prayers campaign is to raise 2000 dollars for the youth symphony orchestra in Urubamba. With this money, a certain part will be supported, the initiative “mi primera orquesta” (my first orchestra). This is where young children come together for 8 to 12 months, learn about different instruments, sing in the choir and make a cardboard musical instrument together with their parents. With this cardboard instrument they already learn how to hold the instrument and how to play it with the right posture. After this phase, when the children are enthusiastic and motivated, they get a real instrument and move up to the next phase.
The 2000 dollars will be used for 13 children who have just finished "Mi primera orquesta" and who are now ready to start classes with a real instrument. 2000 dollars will finance weekly individual classes for 13 young musicians from August to December! It is so touching seeing children shine and sing with a cardboard musical instrument. It is then so beautiful to see them play a real instrument in the next phase. This project is probably one of the most touching that the Earth Prayers movement has come across so far.
Enjoy supporting 13 young musicians and the whole project of the symphonic orquestra and choir for children and youth of the sacred valley!
